私は、とある系譜の在り方を「粘土的なマチエール」と名付けて援用し、一方で昔話の構造から導かれる「図形的登場人物」をモチーフとして借用することで、両者の相互作用から生まれる絵の可能性を探してきた。言い換えると、制作の軸において、X軸に図形的登場人物、Y軸に粘土的なマチエールを設定し、その交点から立ち上がる“何か”を作品化してきたと言える。

今回の新作では、図形的登場人物というX軸の内部にある「図形的登場人物を生み出す主体」、すなわち「物語の態度」に着目し、その態度を物体として表現することを試みている。

I have been exploring the possibilities of painting that emerge from the interplay between a certain lineage of form and color—what I call “clay-like matière”—and the motif of flat characters derived from folktale structures. In my practice, I map flat characters onto the X-axis and clay-like matière onto the Y-axis, then bring into being the “something” that arises at their intersection. In this new work, I turn my attention to the narrative attitude—the very agency that generates flat characters within the X-axis—and attempt to materialize that attitude as a physical object.
